Isn't baba the word for father, and -ji an honorific, thus this is just "Honored Father", which isn't much different from use by Catholics of Father for priest, or similarly, Il Papa, the Pope. I have seen "babaji" used in several yoga groups for the guru, and "dadaji" "honorable grandfather", for the guru of the guru. So when I hear of some guru "Babaji" I have no idea whom they mean without further clues. Sanskrit is not my native tongue, so I could be wrong. Any confirmation?GangofOne 9 July 2005 02:45 (UTC)
