How this former NBA player promotes abstinence

[edit]

"If you're a sports fan, you'll recognize "Iron Man" A.C. Green, the NBA star who's played in more consecutive basketball games than any other player. But this past season, A.C. hung up his jersey to focus his attention on his other passion: promoting abstinence until marriage to kids across the U.S. Through his youth leadership camps, thriving foundation (A.C. Green Youth Foundation, Inc.), and school curriculum that teach abstinence, A.C. preaches what he practices—despite celebrity peer pressure, this never-married man has remained a virgin. But this past year, A.C. found time to meet the right woman, pop the question, and start planning a wedding for this spring. Until then, A.C. splits his time between Phoenix, Portland, and L.A., where he runs his camps and continues to talk about abstinence before marriage. TCW caught up with A.C. to find out why he's so fired up about youth. What's your biggest goal for your campers? To help kids develop healthy self-esteem and make wise decisions about their future. We play basketball in the morning, then I take the campers, mostly inner-city kids ages 9 to 15, on field trips to local businesses to see all the job possibilities that exist. I want these kids to see they don't have to be an entertainer or athlete to "make it" in society. I also stress the importance of remaining abstinent until they get married. Where did you get your passion for kids to remain sexually pure? I have 11 nieces and nephews ages 3 to 22. As a Christian, I didn't like the "safe sex" message they got in public school. So instead of complaining about it, I decided to do something about it. I started by telling people about my choice to obey God's Word and remain a virgin until I get married. Second, I developed the camps and school curriculum that both teach abstinence. So how do you resist sexual temptation? I make God my number-one priority. But while I stay focused on God—in his Word and in prayer—I also have a supporting cast to help me remain pure. Others help hold you accountable; they prop you up when you feel as if you're falling into the temptation. I also learned the importance of loving and respecting myself first, so I'll make good choices regarding my future and my career. My decision to stay pure for my wedding is one of the best choices I can make for my marriage. How do you continue to make wise choices in all areas of your life? It's all about perspective. I try to remember that this life isn't all about me, it's about what God wants to do through me in his timing. My job is to be obedient, to be willing to be used by God. The rest is in his hands! I don't expect to make perfect decisions or change a lot of people on my own. But coupled with the Holy Spirit, anything and everything are possible." —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.47.110.172 (talkcontribs).

"Pro-life celebrity?"

[edit]

While I suspect that A.C. Green is probably pro-life, no where in the article is this mentioned.

Furthermore, the "Pro-Life celebrities" page says: "Celebrities, including actors, and other people of note, who have expressed a belief in the anti-abortion or pro-life ethic, and whose positions are noted in their biographies" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.170.67.92 (talkcontribs)

This article needs an overhaul

[edit]

It's loaded with opinion and NPOV, the whole thing is one long rambling paragraph, and most important, it cites no sources for its claims. wikipediatrix 23:20, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why is there a space in "A.C."?

[edit]

His first name is A.C., same as his father. It doesn't stand for anything else, and there is no middle name, so there is no space. http://www.acgreen.com/acgreen/index.html --Edgewise (talk) 11:24, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Check what follows "american" in the info box's nationality: is that acceptable? --Alextrade2404 (talk) 15:46, 16 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
