Student of international development. My main current interests lie in improving development studies through critical exploration of anthropology of globalization and cultural geography. Current project involves exploring theoretical transformation of World Bank from neoliberal to neoinstitutional economics perspectives. I argue that while the theoretical transformation was clear, the impact at the level of development outcomes was substantially irrelevant. This is primarily because multinational corporations had already been mobilizing neoinstitutionalist rhetoric for decades. Furthermore, they are not constrained by the strictures of neoclassical economics, especially assumptions of relatively autonomous, self-interested individuals interacting in environments where information is relatively costless as is protection of private property. Self-interest may rule, but individualism is only true at the top of corporate pyramids.
