Talk:Automatic squeeze
This definition is incorrect. An 'automatic' squeeze, in contrast to a 'positional' squeeze, is one where either defender can be squeezed (see, for example, http://www.bridgeworld.com/default.asp?d=bridge_glossary&f=glossa.html). So both simple and criss cross squeezes can be automatic or positional. Also both might require guesswork or be free of guesswork.
For example:
AJ - - 2
2 K - A
If *either* defender has SKQ and HA then they are squeezed on the CA. The squeeze works "automatically."
Contrast with:
AJ K - -
32 - - A
Now only West can be squeezed by the CA.
You're very welcome to fix it – this is a free encyclopedia. I'm fairly acknowledged with squeezes, but I didn't dig into terminology. Some Wikipedia articles also refer to it as "positional squeeze", which seems to describe the same thing as non-automatic squeeze, so it might be the terminology confusion overall. If you're able to untangle it, I'll appreciate.Duja 18:42, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
