- The university claims that employee Szent-Györgyi, invented or discovered Vitamin C. He used paprika grown in farms neigboring Szeged in his work. Szent-Györgyi found that it contained an enantiomer of ascorbic acid (which several years earlier was described as Vitamin C by two scandinavian doctors, though the actual character of the substance (ascorbic acid) wasn´t known at that time). For this reason ("for his discoveries in connection with the biological combustion processes, with special reference to vitamin C and the catalysis of fumaric acid") he got the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1937.
It could perhaps be used in the article Albert Szent-Györgyi.
