Trabancos river

[edit]

Your cleanup and translation of the final sections are much appreciated!--Fuhghettaboutit 16:55, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey again. In response to your comments on the talk page of Trabancos, in order to talk directly to someone, just click on their signature, which takes you to their user page, then click discussion on the top of the screen, which takes you to their talk page (every user has one). This gives them the "you have new messages" alert the next time they log on. Of course comments directly related to the article are fine on the talk page, I was just responding to your note that you didn't know where to go to talk:-).
Let me tell you a bit about piping links so you understand how to deal with them. Everything that has an article on Wikipedia can be made into an internal wikilink by enclosing in two brackets (I know you know that, but I have to start somewhere). By placing a pipe after the link text (|) and placing text on the other side, you can make any text be linked; the text before tells the software where to go, the text after tells the software what to display. So, for instance, when you changed [[Alphonso II|Alphonse II]] to [[Alphonse II|Alphonse II]], you broke the link because the article being linked to is called Alphonso II and the article was already displaying the anglified king's name because that's what was on the right hand side of the pipe.
Some other link stuff you might want to know since you will be doing translating, I take it, a lot: To link to a foreign language Wikipedia, use a colon, then the two letter other language designator (for Spanish es) then another colon, then the article's name like this: [[:es:Trabancos]]. The reason you need the first colon is that without it, it won't display anything; instead it will tell the software the foreign language article for the article you type that link into, is at that address. You know the sidebar in articles which says all the other languages the article is in? That's how those are made. If you want a link to display as normal for a foreign language article link, then you would just pipe it like this: [[:es:Trabancos|Trabancos]]. Note that the way I am writing those link codes out, without them becoming links, is by placing tags around the code telling the software not to recognize the code--><nowiki></nowiki>.
Some other notes. I noticed your use of HTML tags for boldface and italics. To italicize you put two apostrophes on either side of the text. For boldface, three, and for boldfaced italics, five. To set off text by indenting (as this message is), use a colon before it. For more indentation, more colons. You might take a once through of the Wikipedia:Tutorial for more.--Fuhghettaboutit 22:40, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Just in case it looks like I'm being ignorant and not replying: Thanks! Twenex 23:42, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hellow Twenex, I'm the author of the article Trabancos River in spanish Wikipedia and I'm very happy thanks to your brilliant job of cleanup and both to the translation of Fuhghettaboutit. I don't speak english very much well and this lines are much effort for me. You know. I want express my gratitude to you once again. Good job! --Locutus Borg File:Logo-Borg.gif, Talk to me 15:35, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Respuesta

[edit]

You said: De nada! Anticipo trabajar con Vds. en el futuro con mucha ilusión (tiene sentido, esto?!)

I said, yes, tiene sentido, isn't perfect but it had meaning, I understand perfectly. What horrible is my reponse (Salvatore, a fictional character of The Name of the Rose, by Umberto Eco said: I don't know nothing; I say the same) ;-) --Locutus Borg File:Logo-Borg.gif, Talk to me 16:01, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You're too modest! :-) --Twenex 11:24, 23 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Name change

[edit]

Hi, thanks for the change with the title of Convergència i Unió. I have proposed the samer thing with Republican Left of Catalonia, to be changed into Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya. This would be consistant with your change. I have proposed this in the talk page of Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya article. --Francisco Valverde 19:33, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, made the suggested name change. --Twenex 11:24, 23 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deaf-mute

[edit]

MANY THANKS for your comments on Talk:The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter! I was beginning to feel very alone on this issue. If you can drum up some more support that would be great. Again, thanks for lending your voice. Ward3001 22:38, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm again asking those who commented against using "deaf-mute" to once again help me out. There is a persistent user who has repeatedly reverted "deaf" to "deaf-mute", and has again reverted (and probably will do so again until this issue is mediated [in process] or arbitrated). So far I'm the only one who has reverted it back to "deaf". If others could please put The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter on your watchlist and revert when necessary, I think it would have a much bigger impact. Just be careful not to violate the 3-revert-rule. As I'm writing this, the article needs reversion. There are four instances in the article where "deaf" is being reverted to "deaf-mute". I would greatly appreciate others in addition to myself making the reverts back to "deaf". As always, many thanks. Ward3001 03:32, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure if adding someone to the mediation form is acceptable at this point or not. In any event, I may need support if/when it goes to formal arbitration; I'll certainly let you know. I'm hoping this will become a moot point and that 24.0.97.119 will finally get the message. I'm beginning to think he/she is trying to save face, or perhaps he/she is just incredibly stubborn. Thanks for all your help. Keep an eye on the The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter. I deeply appreciate your many efforts in this important matter. Warmest regards. Ward3001 01:32, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Note regarding mediation

[edit]

24.0.97.119 ignored the mediation request (neither agreeing nor disagreeing), yet continues to revert "deaf" to "deaf-mute". Please continue to monitor The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter. If this continues, I will ask everyone's opinion about seeking formal arbitration from Wikipedia. Arbitration results in a binding decision. Thanks. Ward3001 00:39, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Sociology Newsletter: II (April 2010)

[edit]
Sociology ProjectNews • April 2010
Spreading the meme since August 2006

The Sociology WikiProject is conducting a roll call (or min-census, if you prefer). More then five years down the road, we have over 50 members, but we don't know how many of them are still active in the sociology area. If you are or want to become once again an active contributor to the sociology content on Wikipedia, please move your name from the inactive to the active list on our roll call (or add yourself to the list if you haven't joined yet!).

In other news, we have reactivated the newsletter :) At least, for this announcement. We also have a new, automated to do listing, an active tag and assess project (which has identified about 1,800 sociology articles on Wikipedia, and assessed about 1,3000 of them), and three new userboxes for your self-identification pleasure :) On a final note, I highly recommend watchlisting the Wikipedia:WikiProject Sociology page, so you can be aware of the ongoing discussions.

You have received this newsletter because you are listed as a recipient of WikiProject Sociology Newsletter (Opt-out). • signed

WikiProject Sociology membership

[edit]

You are listed in the Category:Wikipedians interested in sociology, probably due to the use of "This user is interested in sociology" userbox, but you have not added yourself to our official member list for WikiProject Sociology. This prevents you from, among other things, receiving our sociology newsletter, as that member list acts as our newsletter mailing list (you can find the latest issue of our sociology newsletter here). If you'd like to receive the newsletter and help us figure out how many members we really have, please consider joining our WikiProject and adding yourself to our official member list. Thank you, --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 13:24, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:10, 7 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. We're into the last five days of the Women in Red World Contest. There's a new bonus prize of $200 worth of books of your choice to win for creating the most new women biographies between 0:00 on the 26th and 23:59 on 30th November. If you've been contributing to the contest, thank you for your support, we've produced over 2000 articles. If you haven't contributed yet, we would appreciate you taking the time to add entries to our articles achievements list by the end of the month. Thank you, and if participating, good luck with the finale!

History of Unix

[edit]

History of Unix:

"by his wife, leaving him with a month of time to work on it full time"
It wasn't the narrative I was arguing with but the phrasing. By definition, a month is a unit of time, so "of time" in "month of time" is redundant, added to which, "a month of time...full-time" is a bit clumsy. Twenex (talk) 12:55, 24 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
