Wind Generator vs Wind Turbine
[edit]Hi. When I got here, this was a redirect to wind turbine. That's not appropriate, since non-turbine reciprocationg wind generators (e.g. Windbelt) exist. So I recreated this stub. We should move non-turbine portions of wind turbine here and reference this article from there. --Treekids (talk) 22:46, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
"largest source of renewable energy"
[edit]Wind power is not the largest source of renewable electricity. Hydropower is. Geothermal may also be a larger source. (In America, hydro is 100x larger than wind and geothermal 10x greater.) In 1995 wind power worldwide produced 5 gW of electricity while geothermal produced 5.8 gW according to the US Dept. of Energy. http://www.eia.doe.gov/cneaf/solar.renewables/renewable.energy.annual/contents.html
Hydropower in the US alone generates more than 5gW in 1999 according to the DOE. --User:rmhermen

[edit]If everyone would please get out of the STONEAGE with their low voltage wind electric generating machines we could make a REAL clean world out of this place without a LARGE profit to the one's that waste their time talking and not doing. When you get off your posterier and go with high voltage wind and hydrogen then you will see a quantim leap in renewables and the oilers of the far east will not be able to jerk our bobers.I know that anyone willing to pay $10.00 to $15.00 a month can make their own elect.,heat, hot water and even air cond.
For those who care,
A Wind Turbine and a Wind Generator are two different things
[edit]A wind turbine is a structure that rotates due to the motion of the wind that passes by, while a wind generator is an electric rotary machine that uses the kinetic energy provided by the rotating wind turbine to produce electricity. While the content is related between these two, I strongly recommend that there should be two separate articles, one for Wind Turbines and one for Wind Generators. The Wind Generators article should include more information about the history of the machine and the ongoing technological advances on design and use standards.
