My new mission on wikipedia is the elimination of fanboy information from celebrity/famous-persons entries. As knowledge of the existance of Wikipedia has grown, more and more fans of famous people come here to add their information to wikipedia about those people. And more often than not, the information added is not appropriate for inclusion in Wikipedia. I have become vigilant - many would say overly zealous - in my aggressive approach to weeding out these contributors and their inappropriate edits.
If I have crossed wires with you, please confront me in an honest, open, but constructive way, and we can find out how to meet in a middle ground. Cheers! Pacian 10:29, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
Articles I have contributed to heavily in the recent months:
- Kim Fields
- Cyndi Lauper (and her singles)
- Julie Brown (and her singles)
- Alexis Arquette
- RuPaul (and her singles)
It is my belief that the Wikipedia is the epitome of what the internet was created for. This is a fantastic place for the interexchange of the vast expanse of human knowledge. If it is known, herein the seed is sown. I have some very stringent beliefs about Wikipedia that I incorporate in my entries:
- An encyclopedia is not a place for morality of any kind. If something is factual and relevant it belongs here without judgement. This includes information and photographs of a sexually graphic nature, or a violent nature. Something unpleasant or distasteful to look at to you may be perfectly average to someone else. To this end it is best to err on the side of inclusion, not on the side of caution.
- Following this theme, the censorship of expletives is unacceptable when directly quoting.
- The wikipedia is not paper. Take some time to truly rationalize an item before voting it for deletion. Is there any reason someone may wish to research the topic in question, ever at all, who might come to Wikipedia to do so? If so, the article is appropriate. Would the researcher be MORE likely to search for the topic under another broader related topic? If not, then the article is appropriate.
I do my best not to rock the boat, and my year+ of contributions here proves that I am legitimate in my desire to improve this awesome place! But I make mistakes, and I am a very sensitive person. To that end, if you have a problem with something I've done or said, or if I have made an error, please be kind to me about it. I am extremely responsive to politely phrased comments (and yes, even a bit of coddling,) but taking a crass tone with me will only put my guard up. Pacian 07:47, 14 May 2005 (UTC)
My new passion: photo contribution. It turns out I've been quite the amateur photographer in my 26 years of life accumulating thousands of pictures of such a huge variety of things, and what better place to immortalize my photographic experience than on wikimedia commons! Search for contributions by "Pacian" there and see if there's anything you can use! Pacian 19:04, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)
